Minulý týden publikovala některá zahraniční média zprávu o tom, že WHO přehodnocuje dosavadní definici neplodnosti založenou na medicínských aspektech, na definici sociální. Neplodným tedy pro příště nebude ten, kdo nemůže otěhotnět, ale ten kdo by chtěl potomka a nemůže najít partnera. Jak uvádí Dr. Adamson, jeden z autorů nové definice, jedná se o fundamentální změnu v nazírání : “The definition of infertility is now written in such a way that it includes the rights of all individuals to have a family, and that includes single men, single women, gay men, gay women.“
Tato definice však přináší řadu problémů – např. Josephine Quintavalle řekla, že: “This absurd nonsense is not simply re-defining infertility but completely side-lining the biological process and significance of natural intercourse between a man and a woman.“

v této souvislosti bych ráda upozornila na nepřímou reakci WHO v této věci ze dne 21. 10. 2016 (den po článku v Telegraphu):
„WHO is currently collaborating with its partners to update the Glossary and consideration is being given to revising the definition of infertility. Should there be a change in the definition of infertility, it will remain a clinical description of infertility as a disease of the reproductive system and will not make recommendations about the provision of fertility care services.“
